Through an Apostolic Succession, unbroken since the time of Christ, the Contemporary Catholic Church aligns itself with the historic Church and countless people of prayer from past centuries. We are not a new sect, but a constituent part of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church united by one Eucharist.
"But if there be any [heresies] which are bold enough to plant [their origin] in the midst of the apostolic age, that they may thereby seem to have been handed down by the apostles, because they existed in the time of the apostles, we can say: Let them produce the original records of their churches; let them unfold the roll of their bishops, running down in due succession from the beginning in such a manner that [their first] bishop shall be able to show for his ordainer and predecessor some one of the apostles or of apostolic men--a man, moreover, who continued steadfast with the apostles. For this is the manner in which the apostolic churches transmit their registers: as the church of Smyrna, which records that Polycarp was placed therein by John; as also the church of Rome, which makes Clement to have been ordained in like manner by Peter.
—Tertullian, Demurrer Against the Heretics, 20 A.D. 200.

What is apostolic succession?

Apostolic succession is the line of bishops stretching back to the apostles. All Catholic bishops can have their lineage of predecessors traced back to the time of the apostles. Having received grace through a valid ordination the priest becomes to some degree personally as a source of grace, even though as a successor to others. So long as there is Apostolic succession in the given organization, the ordinations will be valid. The Contemporary Catholic Church fully understands its unity in the one Eucharist for "all commune from the one bread and the one cup".

The Church understands Apostolic succession not merely as an external mechanical transfer of the very act of ordination but also the faith connected with this act namely the preservation of the Apostolic teaching on the grace of priesthood within a given group. This authority to teach, to govern, and to sanctify is passed on to others through Apostolic Succession by the laying on of hands, as was done in the Old Testament. The apostolic succession of the episcopal ministry is the path that guarantees the faithful transmission of the apostolic testimony.

John 17:18
As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.

Through valid Apostolic Succession, The Contemporary Catholic Church is one of the living works of God's loving grace. The validity of all our clergy is also verified and ensured through the Bishops' strict continuance of this historical instrument of which the Spirit makes use to make present the Lord Jesus, through whom they are ordained by the ministry through the imposition of hands and the prayer of the bishops.
